Come Rain or Shine
In this lesson pupils will find out about different cloud types and how they affect our climate. They will also learn that clouds can’t protect us from the sun’s UV rays so it is still important to follow the Key Steps to Sun Safety even on cloudy days, particularly when the sun is strong during the UK summer months April – September.
Spot the Sunwise Five
In this activity the children will think about covering up to play outside in the sun.
Take Cover
In this activity pupils will think about finding shade when they are outside.
Worldwide Weather
In this activity pupils will explore sunshine maps and discuss the information they provide. They will also explore different ways of presenting this information.
Key Steps to Sun Safety
A lesson to challenge pupils to write a new sun safety poem/song starting with the line The sun has got his hat on and include the key steps to sun safety.
Your Skin

Sunny Cricket
The aim of the lesson is to teach children the meaning of the term, Sun Protection Factor, SPF, and to remind them what SPF to wear in the sun. The centrepiece of the lesson is a version of quick cricket, known as ‘Sunny Cricket'.
Sun Sense
As we’re approaching the summer holidays, the Sunwise Set has a fun, end-of-term activity – a wordsearch that pupils can complete in class or take home. The words are all connected with the sun and sun safety.
Sun Lotion Skin Game
Welcome to the Sun, Lotion, Skin game. Each team starts with three lives. You will be shown where the shade is – that’s home!
